Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is rolling out a series of initiatives to elevate the quality of taxi services across the emirate.

Focusing on passenger comfort, safety, and overall experience, the RTA is committed to ensuring that taxis remain clean, sustainable, and efficient for residents, tourists, and visitors alike.

What's new?

AI cameras to detect smoking

One of the most innovative initiatives involves installing artificial intelligence (AI) cameras in taxis. The AI-powered monitoring systems will detect smoking inside the vehicles, ensuring passengers enjoy a smoke-free environment during their journeys. This aligns with RTA’s broader commitment to providing a clean and healthy transportation experience.

Cleaner, safer taxi experience

The RTA is also intensifying its inspection campaigns to enforce strict cleanliness standards across all taxis in the emirate. Operators will be required maintain the highest levels of service quality, and drivers will receive more uniforms to ensure a more polished and consistent appearance across the fleet.

One of the most notable updates is the launch of a pilot program aimed at improving air quality inside taxis. Over 500 taxis serving Dubai International Airport will be equipped with high-quality air fresheners to ensure a pleasant and fresh atmosphere for passengers.

The authority is also enhancing awareness and training programs for taxi drivers and driving school instructors. These programs will emphasize maintaining vehicle cleanliness and improving driver professionalism.

The new measures reflect RTA’s continuous drive to enhance Dubai’s transportation system, focusing on passenger satisfaction and environmental sustainability. By integrating technology, driver training, and stricter cleanliness protocols, RTA is setting a new standard for the taxi sector and reinforcing Dubai’s reputation as a world leader in innovative, customer-centric transport solutions.
