Pakistan's federal government and the Pakistan Peoples Party will send a joint delegation for talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders on Friday at the National Assembly speaker's office, as tensions rise ahead of PTI's planned Oct. 4 march toward Islamabad. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif agreed on the PTI talks during a Thursday meeting.

Who will take part in the government-PPP delegation for PTI talks?

The delegation includes Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Prime Minister's Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah and Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions Amir Muqam. The PPP will be represented by Sen. Sherry Rehman, Syed Naveed Qamar and Ejaz Jakhrani. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said the party accepted the government's offer.

Gohar said representatives of the government and opposition would meet Friday at the office of the National Assembly speaker.

What did Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif discuss before the PTI talks?

The two leaders met at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Thursday and reviewed the country's overall political and security situation. The President's Office said the delegation would discuss the prevailing political situation with PTI leadership.

They also focused on security in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where PTI heads the provincial government. Participants expressed concern over the situation there and stressed the need to strengthen the country's resolve against terrorism. They also emphasized effective coordination among all relevant institutions to ensure peace and stability.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sen. Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Sen. Azam Nazeer Tarar and Prime Minister's Adviser Rana Sanaullah. Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan, Prime Minister's Adviser Dr. Tauqeer Shah, Sen. Sherry Rehman, Sen. Saleem Mandviwalla, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah also attended.

What is the status of PTI's Oct. 4 march?

PTI's planned march was postponed from Sept. 27 to Oct. 4, and tensions between the government and the party have risen since. Rana Sanaullah said Thursday that the government and senior PTI leaders were already engaged in "off-the-record talks" over the planned protest.

The Friday meeting could provide a political channel between the government and PTI before the march. Both sides remain divided over the party's demands and the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
