The State Bank of Pakistan has granted a nationwide microfinance banking license to Halan Microfinance Bank Ltd., effective June 3, following its acquisition by Egypt’s leading fintech company, MNT-Halan, according to a statement issued by SBP.

The bank, previously known as Advans Pakistan Microfinance Bank Ltd., has operated in Sindh since 2012, offering financial services to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises through a network of 19 branches.

With MNT-Halan’s takeover, the institution aims to expand its digital offerings, including mobile wallets, payment cards and a buy-now-pay-later e-commerce platform.

MNT-Halan, Egypt’s largest lender to unbanked and underbanked populations, brings its fintech expertise to Pakistan’s growing microfinance sector. The acquisition is expected to enhance financial inclusion through innovative digital solutions.

“This partnership allows us to deliver seamless, cost-effective financial services to underserved communities,” a Halan Microfinance Bank spokesperson said. The bank reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable and responsible lending practices.

MNT-Halan operates across multiple markets, providing digital payments, consumer lending and e-commerce solutions globally. The move marks its latest expansion in emerging economies.
