International Day of Charity: UAE's humanitarian initiatives through the years

Since its founding in 1971, the UAE has provided over $98 billion in foreign aid, extending a helping hand to communities in need across the globe, WAM reported.

The International Day of Charity, celebrated on September 5 each year, honors Mother Teresa's life and legacy of compassion. The United Nations established the day to promote charitable causes and inspire individuals, organizations, and governments to contribute to humanitarian efforts.

Mother Teresa, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her dedication to helping those in need, passed away on September 5, 1997, at 87. Her life’s work continues to influence charitable movements around the world.

UAE's humanitarian initiatives

In recent years, the UAE has led many impactful humanitarian initiatives. These include the "Yemen We Care" campaign in 2015, "For Your Sake, Somalia" in 2017, the campaign to support Rohingya women and children in 2019, and "Warm Winter" initiative in 2022, which provided aid to refugees and displaced people in the Middle East and Africa.

In 2023, the UAE launched the "Bridges of Giving" initiative to aid earthquake victims in Syria and Turkiye, and the "Tarahum for Gaza" campaign to aid Palestinians affected by the ongoing war in the strip.

Additionally, through its humanitarian arm, Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, the UAE has carried out a series of initiatives to provide urgent relief to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, delivering essential supplies and alleviating the hardships of those affected by difficult living conditions.
