Is Liverpool's Salah heading to Saudi Pro League?
The star Egyptian forward has stated that the ongoing season will be his last with The Reds
After helping Liverpool administer an emphatic 3-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday, Mohamed Salah revealed that this would be his last season at Anfield.
The Egyptian, who is the highest scoring visiting player to Old Trafford in Premier League history with seven goals, netted and provided two assists for Luis Diaz as Liverpool continued life under new boss Arne Slot in perfect fashion this season.
While other Liverpool players celebrated their resounding success, Salah stole the headlines with his post-match thoughts.
"I had a good summer, a long time to stay with myself and think positively a bit, this is my last year with the club and I want to enjoy it," Salah told Sky Sports.
"I feel I am free to play football -- we will see what happens next year. Nobody in the club has talked to me about contracts. It is not up to me, it is up to the club."
Slot's dream start to life in England continued as he became the first Liverpool manager to win his first meeting with United since Bob Paisley in November 1975, and just the second to do so away from home after George Kay in November 1936.
There was only one topic on everyone's lips after the match, however, even given the nature of the success.
"There is a lot of ifs, but at this moment he is one of ours and I am really happy with him [Salah]," Slot said. "I don't talk about contracts. He was impressive, like the first two games but if you talk about an individual, you don't do justice to the other ones.”
Interest from Saudi Pro League
Salah signed a three-year deal in 2022 that reportedly made him the highest paid player in the club's history, worth more than £18 million ($24 million) a year.
But he has been consistently linked with a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League. A year ago, Liverpool reportedly rejected a bid of £150 million from Al-Ittihad. However, the Saudis will once again be in the picture if Salah and The Reds are unable to agree on a new deal.
The Saudi Pro League has roped in some of the biggest names in the world of football since 2023.
Obsessed to be taken seriously as a football force, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has already announced a Sports Clubs Investment and Privatisation Project, with Public Investment Fund (PIF) taking ownership of 75% of the capital of the country's four main clubs: Al-Ahli, Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr.
Let’s take a look at some of the famous footballers who have moved to the Gulf in the recent past.
Cristiano Ronaldo
It all started with legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Al-Nassr in 2023 following a dispute between the five-time Ballon d'Or winner and his former club Manchester United.

Neymar
Brazilian winger Neymar moved to Al-Hilal in August 2023 after spending six seasons with French giants Paris Saint-Germain in which he won several domestic trophies but not the Champions League the club craves.
Karim Benzema
French striker Karim Benzema's left for Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023 after saying goodbye to Real Madrid, where he lifted five Champions Leagues, four La Liga titles and three Copas del Rey.

N'Golo Kante
France’s World Cup-winning midfielder N'Golo Kante joined Al-Ittihad in July 2023 after an illustrious career at Chelsea which included Champions League and Premier League title wins.
Sadio Mane
Sadio Mane joined Ronaldo at Saudi side Al-Nassr after leaving Bundesliga club Bayern Munich in 2023. The former Liverpool star also won the Champions League and Premier League during his time in England.
Will Salah leave Liverpool?
It is important to mention here that, according to Melissa Reddy, a senior reporter at Sky Sports, Salah wants to stay at Liverpool rather than leaving for another club.
"Salah has not considered any other club yet, but feels he still has years left at the highest level. He wants to be competing for the biggest prizes and so interest from Saudi Arabia would not be enticing at present,” Reddy said.
The Egyptian star has scored 214 goals for Liverpool since joining in 2017, putting him fifth on the club's all-time scoring charts.
