It’s official, Dubai Mall is the most visited place on Earth
In the first half of 2024 alone, 57 million visitors made their way to the world’s most popular mall
Dubai, known for its luxury and grandeur, continues to redefine the shopping experience on a global scale. Its crown jewel, Dubai Mall has claimed the title of "the most visited place on Earth."
In the first half of 2024, Dubai Mall welcomed an astounding 57 million visitors, marking a substantial increase in retail sales — from 8% to 15% compared to the same period last year. This staggering footfall underscores Dubai's allure as a shopping paradise, where you can buy luxury brands as well as unique local treasures.
Emaar Properties, the company behind Dubai Mall, recently unveiled ambitious expansion plans worth 1.5 billion dirhams ($408 million). Already the world’s biggest mall, this 12-million-square-foot marvel is set to grow even more, introducing 240 luxury stores and new dining options.
While brick-and-mortar retail in many places worldwide is in decline, Dubai is bucking the trend. Retail spending in the United Arab Emirates rose 14% last year. This growth is attributed to the city's ability to create unique and luxurious shopping experiences, positioning it as a global hub for premium retail therapy.
Since its inception in 1996, the Dubai Shopping Festival has played a pivotal role in enhancing the city's reputation as a shopping haven. With a plethora of malls catering to diverse tastes and preferences, Dubai offers something for every shopper.
Last year, Dubai saw a record influx of tourists, with Dubai Mall alone hosting 105 million visitors—a 19% rise from the previous year. Anticipating continued growth, the city is investing in expanding its tourism infrastructure, ensuring seamless experiences for all visitors.
