At least six people were killed and 38 others injured when a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker exploded in Pakistan's city of Multan late Sunday night.

Multan Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Bukhari confirmed on Monday that the explosion was caused by a fire in the tanker. Rescue 1122 spokesperson Arshad Bhutta said the injured, including women and children, were immediately shifted to Nishtar Hospital for treatment.

The blast caused several houses in the vicinity to collapse, leaving dozens of residents trapped under the rubble. Bhutta added that approximately 20 cattle also perished in the explosion.

The cause of the explosion was under investigation, according to Musa Raza Gillani, a member of the National Assembly from the area.

Gillani expressed his condolences to the affected families and assured them he was in contact with the district administration to oversee the response.

Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir directed medical teams to ensure those injured receive appropriate care. He confirmed that 39 individuals have been treated at the hospital so far.

Provincial Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and extended her condolences to the bereaved families.
