Planning a trip to Japan? Visa services resume for UAE residents through VFS

Standard processing time for visa applications is 8 working days

UAE residents planning a trip to Japan will soon have a new process to navigate. Starting August 1, 2024, all visa applications, both short and long-term, will be processed exclusively through VFS Global.

The popular e-visa service, which was temporarily suspended for Dubai residents in April, is set to resume in September. However, the process will now involve applying through VFS rather than directly online.

With this change, the consulate-general of Japan in Dubai will no longer accept direct visa applications, except for diplomatic and official purposes. The standard processing time for visa applications is eight working days, provided all required documents are submitted.

A short-term e-visa allows visitors to stay in Japan for up to 90 days and is valid for three months from the date of issuance.

While the e-visa suspension caused inconvenience for many, the resumption of the service in September is expected to boost Japan’s popularity as a top Asian destination for UAE residents.

What are the required documents?

For tourist visas, applicants need to submit the following:

    • Visa application form
    • Photos
    • Original & copy of passport with UAE residence visa
    • A copy of UAE residence visa or Emirates ID
    • Proof of air tickets
    • NOC from employer (with position and monthly income)
    • Proof of financial means (3 months bank statements)
    • Travel itinerary
