6 crime shows you shouldn’t miss this season!
Crime shows are back with a vengeance!
High Potential will feature an unlikely team that solves crimes
The gender-flipping Matlock reboot will be Kathy Bates' final acting role
Austin Stowell will play the younger version of Agent Gibbs in NCIS: Origins
Come September, the TV industry—especially in the U.S. and Canada—starts rolling out fresh police procedurals. And this year, they’re a whole new breed. From reboots to spinoffs, and new detectives to returning favorites, these crime shows will keep you entertained for as long as possible.
Find it difficult to remember what’s on and when, especially when there are so many streaming services. That’s where we come in with a list of six crime shows that will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep your mind racing. Let’s take a look at these shows, and mark your calendars accordingly.
High Potential
However, her unconventional knack for 'correcting' mistakes lands her a job as a police consultant. Good news for procedural fans, bad news for criminals, High Potential will start airing on September 17.
Matlock
Cross
James Patterson's Alex Cross is not just an ordinary detective; he is a forensic psychologist who loves living rent-free in his enemies' mind. His words, not mine. Aldis Hodge will bring Patterson’s character to life in Amazon Prime’s Cross, debuting on November 14, and fans of the detective would hope that it would perform well, unlike the three film incarnations that failed at the box office.
NCIS: Origins
If you know the name Leroy Jethro Gibbs, then you know that he used to be part of NCIS for a long time. Not much is known about his roots or the rules he follows. That's where NCIS: Origins steps in, and from October 14 it will track Gibbs’ journey from the moment he joins the previously-named Naval Investigative Service and how he built his reputation as a top investigator.
Mark Harmon will narrate the series as a retired veteran NCIS agent whereas Austin Stowell will play ‘probie Gibbs’, someone who had to learn from his mentor, Mike Franks.
Murder in a Small Town
Based on L R Wright's Suspect, the first novel in the popular The Alberg and Cassandra Mysteries, Murder in a Small Town features a star cast. There is Rossif Sutherland as Karl Alberg the police chief, Smallville alumni Kristin Kreuk as Cassandra Mitchell, his love interest, besides Stana Katic and James Cromwell.
The Canadian series is slated to premiere on September 24, and if it's anything like the novel, it will take your breath away.
The Penguin
Fans of The Batman have always wanted to know the origin story behind his arch enemy The Penguin. Tim Burton’s Batman Returns handled it childishly by today’s standards while Gotham humanized him for the better. However, The Penguin will present the backstory of the character in a different way, and who else to play the character than Colin Farrell who is still unrecognizable as the Caped Crusader's antagonist.
Though it’s not a police procedural, The Penguin does fit the crime genre, and shouldn’t be missed. Remember, it will begin airing on September 19, and will be over in eight episodes. So much to do, so little time for Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot whose main aim is to control Gotham City's criminal underworld.
