Pakistan is restoring the Indus Delta, one of the world’s largest ecosystems, through the Delta Blue Carbon-1 (DBC-1) project, which has replanted 250,000 hectares of mangroves. This effort has revitalized the environment, generated $40 million in carbon credits, and placed Pakistan on the global carbon trading map.

However, the real heroes of this success—the local communities—remain in poverty despite their vital role in reforestation and protection.

They lack basic services like education, healthcare, and electricity. For sustainable restoration, both the environment and the people who depend on it must flourish.
