Engro Polymer & Chemicals (EPCL), a subsidiary of Engro Corporation, has launched its hydrogen peroxide business with the successful commissioning of a PKR 11.7 billion plant, marking a significant step in Pakistan’s industrial growth.
Developed in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the project aims to strengthen local production capacity, reduce import dependency, and enhance supply chain efficiency in key industrial sectors.
The new facility, which has an annual production capacity of 28,000 tons, incorporates state-of-the-art Chematur technology to ensure high-quality hydrogen peroxide production.
By substituting imports worth approximately $1 million, EPCL aims to reduce Pakistan’s reliance on foreign suppliers, improving the competitiveness of domestic industries, particularly the export-driven textile sector.
The company will manufacture and market its hydrogen peroxide solution under the brand PureOxide, through its wholly owned subsidiary Engro Peroxide (Private) Limited.
As the only hydrogen peroxide manufacturer in southern Pakistan, EPCL plans to streamline supply chains by offering faster delivery times, cost efficiency, and enhanced safety.
PureOxide will be transported in 100% virgin HDPE jerry cans featuring pressure-release technology to prevent explosions and a vapor-blocking membrane to mitigate fire risks. Additionally, the low-carbon footprint and energy-efficient production process align with Engro’s sustainability initiatives.
Abdul Qayoom Shaikh, CEO of EPCL, highlighted the positive impact on Pakistan’s textile sector and other industries, stating:
“Our hydrogen peroxide business will strengthen local industries, especially export-oriented textile players, who will now have access to a high-quality product locally. With unmatched quality, safety, and sustainability, we are confident that PureOxide will become the preferred choice for customers in Pakistan and beyond.”
