Mike Flanagan promises to make The Exorcist franchise scarier
If track records are anything to go by, prepare for the scares of a lifetime!
Flanagan has worked with both original material and Stephen King classics
The Haunting of Hill House director is the best person to add to the Exorcist universe
You have to be truly 'creeptastic' for Stephen King, the Master of Horror, to call your work 'hypnotic, horrifying, and terrific.' And if that maxim stands, then writer-director Mike Flanagan is supremely 'creeptastic'.
Flanagan possibly registered on the garden-variety horror fan's radars when he wrote and directed Oculus in 2013. He exploded in the mainstream when his Haunting series, includingThe Haunting of Hill House, and The Haunting of Bly Manor, released on Netflix. After that, Flanagan’s followers knew their October would always include a new, terrifying, Netflix release.

Flanagan has worked with both original material and Stephen King classics. He also adapted the works of young adult author Christopher Pike into the Netflix adaptation of The Midnight Club. As a director from and for the millennial generation, Flanagan truly 'gets it'.
This is why the Mike Flanagan addition to The Exorcist Universe is exciting. If you've watched any of his works, you will know the director takes away the unexpected from well-known stories and then presents them in a way no one else could have.
Flanagan adapted Doctor Sleep, the sequel to Stephen King's The Shining, in 2019, and King has reportedly commented that it made up for Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of The Shining in 1980.

The Exorcist, released in 1973, terrified audiences worldwide and is counted among the most classic horror features. Perhaps a lot of the lingering horror relies on the fact that all the horrible things that happened in the film happened to a child.
Flanagan, master of horror, is possibly the best person to add to the Exorcist universe. "I just saw an opportunity to make the scariest movie I’ve ever made," Flanagan told The Hollywood Reporter.
The Flaneverse may avoid jump-scares, but it delivers some of the most terrifying storylines and imagery you’ve ever seen. If you're still haunted by everything Pazuzu put poor Regan through in 1973, steel your nerves for Flanagan’s take.
