Pakistan's National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) arrested 42 company owners and employees following coordinated raids on three digital setups in Karachi's Rabia City area in Gulistan-e-Johar, busting an alleged illicit network involved in the online sale of obscene animated content and deceptive social media operations.
How did bogus graphic design firms operate across Rabia City?
The targeted enforcement operation was executed on the directives of Director General NCCIA Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi as part of an expanding probe into dark-web-linked digital exploitation and cross-border cyber fraud. According to NCCIA officials, the 42 detained individuals include at least 12 juveniles who were hired to operate workstations.
During the search operations, cybercrime teams impounded 41 smartphones and digital hardware across three entities masquerading as commercial graphic design firms:
- Pixel Craft: A facility operational for approximately two years, from which investigators impounded 19 mobile handsets.
- Art Design: A setup staffed by 17 workers, where authorities confiscated 17 mobile devices.
- Art Office: A smaller digital branch from which five smartphones were seized.
Publicly, the companies presented themselves as legitimate digital marketing and creative agencies offering logo creation, digital banners, and commercial illustration services to overseas clients. However, NCCIA investigators stated that the commercial services served as a front to draw in foreign users and systematically facilitate the illicit distribution and sale of pornographic animations.
What was cross-border digital modus operandi uncovered by investigators?
According to investigative findings, workers at the raided premises maintained coordinated social media profiles on platforms including X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram using fabricated personas and women's identities. Handlers used these accounts to establish trust, solicit conversations, and entice overseas clients into purchasing illicit visual content and processing foreign currency transactions.
Digital forensic specialists at the NCCIA have launched a comprehensive extraction and analysis of the 41 seized handsets, encrypted chat histories, and associated social media handles. The forensic audit is designed to reconstruct cross-border payment rails, map international client directories, and trace connections to broader dark web distribution channels. Authorities confirmed that formal charges and legal proceedings under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) will be finalized once forensic data extraction is complete.
