Pakistan's internet speed among world's worst
Country ranks 100 in mobile, 141 in broadband speed globally
Pakistan's internet infrastructure continues to lag behind, ranking among the world's slowest in mobile and broadband speeds in October, according to recent data from Ookla's Speedtest Global Index.
The country placed 100th out of 111 nations in mobile internet speeds, with an average download speed of 7.85 MBPS, and 141st out of 158 in broadband speeds, with a median download speed of 15.52 MBPS.
These ranking highlights persistent connectivity issues, including sluggish download times, intermittent disruptions and difficulty accessing online platforms.
Users across Pakistan have reported frustrating experiences, including difficulty downloading media on platforms like WhatsApp and YouTube. The slow speeds have hindered economic growth, education and healthcare services.
Telecommunication experts attribute the slow speeds to inadequate infrastructure investment, limited fiber-optic connectivity and insufficient mobile network upgrades. The Pakistani government has pledged to improve digital infrastructure, but progress remains slow.
