Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned India’s Chargé d’Affaires on Saturday to lodge a formal diplomatic protest over the killing of two unarmed Pakistani civilians by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel along the International Border.
What occurred during the Bedian Sector border incident?
The fatal firing took place on October 2, 2026, along the frontier in the Bedian Sector near Kasur, Punjab. According to Pakistani security officials and local reporting, BSF troops opened fire on three Pakistani civilians, killing Azmat Rasool and Mohsin Jutt on the spot and injuring a third individual. Both deceased men were residents of Jattan Wali Haveli in Ladhar village.
While Indian security officials claimed BSF personnel foiled a late-night infiltration attempt and fired after perceiving a security threat, Pakistani authorities firmly rejected the characterization. Foreign Office officials and security sources in Islamabad stated that all three men were unarmed civilians who had not attempted to cross the border fence, labeling the unprovoked firing a direct violation of bilateral border agreements, human rights laws, and established standard operating procedures.
How has Islamabad formally responded to New Delhi?
During the meeting at the Foreign Office in Islamabad, Pakistani diplomats delivered a formal protest note to the Indian representative. Pakistan called on the Indian government to conduct an immediate, transparent, and credible investigation into the incident and to take strict legal and disciplinary action against any BSF personnel found responsible.
Islamabad also requested that New Delhi formally communicate the findings of the investigation, including details of any disciplinary measures taken.
The Foreign Ministry emphasized that the use of lethal force against unarmed civilians violates fundamental human rights and international law. It urged Indian frontier forces to exercise maximum restraint and comply with established bilateral border protocols. Diplomatic channels between the two countries remain engaged as both sides seek to prevent further escalation along the International Border.
