Pakistan trade deficit widens 6.2% to USD 3.56 billion in September
Exports rise 17.6% from a year earlier, but a larger increase in imports pushes the first-quarter trade gap to USD 10.79 billion

Pakistan’s trade deficit widened 6.2% from a year earlier in September to USD 3.56 billion, compared with USD 3.35 billion in the same month last year, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Imports increased 11% to USD 6.494 billion from USD 5.848 billion a year earlier.
Exports rose at a faster rate, increasing 17.6% to USD 2.939 billion from USD 2.499 billion in September 2025.
Despite the stronger percentage growth in exports, imports increased by a larger amount in absolute terms, resulting in a wider trade deficit.
How did Pakistan’s trade deficit perform in the first quarter?
Pakistan’s trade deficit widened 15.1% during the first three months of fiscal year 2027 to USD 10.79 billion, compared with USD 9.374 billion during the same period a year earlier.
Imports during July-September increased 13.2% from a year earlier to USD 19.215 billion, while exports rose 10.8% to USD 8.423 billion.
The figures show that import growth outpaced export growth during the quarter, widening Pakistan’s merchandise trade deficit.
