Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Bishkek on Monday for a three-day visit to attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), as Islamabad seeks to deepen regional economic and political cooperation.
Kyrgyzstan's Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Adylbek Kasymaliev, received Sharif upon his arrival in the Kyrgyz capital.
Why is PM Shehbaz Sharif visiting Bishkek?
Sharif is due to address the SCO summit, where he will present Pakistan's position on key regional and global issues, before attending the SCO Plus summit.
He will also attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games as chief guest, according to Pakistan's government.
Who will PM Shehbaz Sharif meet in Bishkek?
On the sidelines of the summit, Sharif is scheduled to meet leaders from participating countries to discuss bilateral ties, trade and investment, regional cooperation and other matters of mutual interest.
He will also hold talks with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to review relations between the two countries. Discussions are expected to focus on trade and investment, energy, regional connectivity, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar is accompanying Sharif as part of the Pakistani delegation, along with Federal Ministers Jam Kamal Khan, Abdul Aleem Khan and Attaullah Tarar.
