How did naval mine strikes unfold across the Strait of Hormuz?
In an official statement released in Tehran, the IRGC Navy confirmed that the four vessels were rocked by heavy explosions during the early hours of Tuesday after deliberately shutting off their Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders and navigation equipment in a bid to bypass designated maritime corridors.
According to the Tasnim News Agency, the burning tankers were abandoned off the southern coast of the strategic chokepoint, with the resulting blazes so intense that fishermen operating across the eastern sector of the waterway described a "brightly lit night."
What warnings did the IRGC issue regarding US military coordination?
The IRGC Navy stated that passage regulations governing the Strait of Hormuz have been repeatedly broadcast to all commercial traffic through coastal radio stations and formal notices to mariners.
The military command warned that any commercial vessel attempting to disregard established maritime procedures or coordinate with the United States military to navigate unauthorized lanes would meet an identical fate.

Addressing parallel statements from Washington, the IRGC dismissed public security assessments issued by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM).
"The reality of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz is what you are seeing, not what the terrorist CENTCOM commander claims on social media using archival footage," the IRGC Navy stated, according to Middle East Eye.
Why does waterway remain restricted despite prior diplomatic pacts?
The maritime confrontations follow months of compounding geopolitical friction across the vital energy corridor. Iran initially closed the waterway following armed hostilities that broke out on February 28.
While a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding signed in June outlined a phased 60-day reopening framework overseen by the newly established Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), Iranian authorities reinstated transit restrictions, citing American violations and an ongoing U.S. naval blockade.
According to Press TV, Tehran has conditioned the reopening of the strategic transit route on the fulfillment of seven core prerequisites, led by an immediate cessation of foreign military aggression, the lifting of the U.S. naval cordon, the dismantling of economic sanctions, and the unfreezing of Iranian sovereign assets abroad.
