Minister says digital transformation is key to UAE vision, delivers billions in savings

The UAEhas secured top global rankings in telecommunications infrastructure, digital government framework and digital content, a recent report has revealed.

The State of Digital Transformation Report Report released by the Higher Committee for Government Digital Transformation, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on Tuesday.

The report, launched during the recent Digital Readiness Retreat, details the UAE government’s digital achievements across 12 key sectors, including economy, finance, human resources, health, education, culture, community development, security, justice, infrastructure, logistics, and environment.

Ohood bint Khalfan Al RoumiRoumi, minister of state for government development and the future and chair of the committee, said digital readiness and transformation are central to the UAE leadership’s vision.

She said the government’s focus on eliminating bureaucracy and enhancing quality of life through technology has positioned the UAE as a global leader in digital governance.

The UAE ranked first worldwide in several major indices, including the UN indices for telecommunications infrastructure, digital government, and digital knowledge.

It also topped Oxford Insights’ 2024 Government AI Readiness Index, ranked third globally for government service delivery, and placed fourth in the World Bank’s GovTech Maturity Index. Additionally, it came 11th in both the IMD Digital Competitiveness Index and the UN E-Government Development Index.

Big savings

According to WAM, the UAE’s digital transformation has delivered major efficiency gains which includes AED368 billion saved for users, AED20 billion in government cost reductions, 530 million labor hours saved and 55.8 million tonnes of carbon emissions cut.

In 2024 alone, UAE federal entities processed 173.7 million digital transactions, federal websites attracted 131.5 million visits, and government apps were downloaded 26.3 million times.

More than 1,400 digital services are now offered, including 195 classified as priority. The satisfaction rate for digital services reached 91%, benefiting over 57 million users.

Al Roumi emphasized that the report is not just a record of past successes but a roadmap for accelerating efforts to meet national digital goals, ensure government agility, and maintain the UAE’s edge in global competitiveness.
