  • The UAE government announced several cabinet changes on Sunday.
  • Sana bint Mohammad Suhail was appointed as the Minister of Family to lead efforts in fostering cohesive families.
  • The Ministry of Community Development was renamed the Ministry of Community Empowerment.

The UAE government announced significant cabinet changes on Sunday evening, as outlined by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.

Among the changes is a major reshuffle that includes the establishment of the Ministry of Family Affairs, reflecting the country’s renewed focus on family welfare and societal stability.

The new Ministry of Family Affairs

In his announcement, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid named Sana bint Mohammad Suhail as Minister of Family. He emphasized her extensive expertise in early childhood development, family welfare, and supporting People of Determination, describing her as well-equipped to help the UAE achieve its vision for family-focused initiatives:

"increase the formation of families in the country, enhance their growth, empower them, consolidate their cohesion and stability, and raise fertility rates in the country".

He added that making the family a national priority has been mandated by the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, which has inspired the creation of the new ministry.

The Ministry of Family will be responsible for developing and implementing policies, strategies, legislation, research studies, and initiatives aimed at fostering cohesive families, promoting positive values, enhancing national identity, and supporting balanced family development.

The ministry will also conduct studies and propose policies and initiatives to increase fertility rates among Emirati families, reduce the risks of family breakdown, and mitigate its negative impacts on individuals and society.

Ministry of Community Empowerment

In addition to the new Ministry of Family Affairs, the UAE has renamed the Ministry of Community Development as the Ministry of Community Empowerment.

Led by Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrui, this ministry will focus on designing policies and regulations to provide an integrated social support system for low-income families.

Shamma, who joined the UAE cabinet in 2016 as Minister of State for Youth Affairs, made history as the UAE's youngest minister at the age of 22.

According to WAM, the Ministry of Community Development will remain operational until the two new ministries are fully established. Services and programs will transition gradually over the coming year as part of a structured plan, with beneficiaries receiving regular updates through official channels.
