UAE Ministry of Higher Education launches AI-powered scholarship platform

The scholarship platform marks a comprehensive shift in how services are delivered through the Ministry's website.

Gulf News

UAE's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has launched an AI-powered scholarship platform as part of EduHub, its unified Higher Education digital portal. The platform simplifies how students apply for scholarships and supports the Ministry's digital transformation, WAM reported.

What is the new AI-powered scholarship platform?

It is a fully digital service within EduHub where students apply for scholarships. AI tools read and verify documents, and the system retrieves personal data automatically. Applicants need only two documents, three steps and four fields, and can submit in as little as five minutes.

What services does EduHub offer?

EduHub is the gateway to the Ministry's services. These include registration and admission for higher education institutions and scholarship services. It also covers enquiries about institutions and academic programs outside the UAE, and the submission and tracking of exemption requests.

The scholarship platform marks a comprehensive shift in how services are delivered through the Ministry's website. It offers a simpler, faster process and supports the Ministry's drive to eliminate bureaucracy.

How does the platform reduce documents and steps?

Rashed Karam Al Kaabi, Director of the International Education Support and Scholarships Department, said the platform is built on direct links with several government entities. These are the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, the National Service and Reserve Authority and the Ministry of Education.

This integration has cut the documents required from applicants to just two. Students following the government curriculum no longer need to provide personal information or high school transcripts, as the system retrieves them automatically.

Applications now take three steps instead of five. Applicants complete four fields instead of 22. The minimum time to submit an application is five minutes.

Al Kaabi said the changes improve the customer experience and simplify administrative procedures. Students can spend more time preparing for their educational journey.

How does AI help scholarship applicants?

The platform uses AI tools to read and verify documents. It also automates procedures that once required direct customer intervention. Scholarship agreements can be signed fully online, and documents can be received after an award without visits to Ministry offices.

Applicants get instant notifications and ongoing updates on their application status. A direct messaging feature lets them contact the relevant department. This makes applications easier to track, prevents duplicate submissions and helps staff follow up.

Electronic integration with government entities also reduces manual errors.

What problems does the new scholarship platform solve?

The platform addresses challenges applicants faced before. These included difficulty tracking applications by email, the need to visit the Ministry for technical issues and lengthy document-signing procedures. All stages of the service are now fully digital, which improves speed and reliability.

How will the Ministry measure the platform's impact?

In the next phase, the Ministry will measure the platform's effectiveness and its impact on customers. It will monitor service completion times, the number of steps, the share of digitally processed transactions and customer satisfaction. These measures will support continuous improvement.
