UAE president calls for rain prayer at all mosques on Friday

Worshippers across the UAE will perform Salaat Al Istisqaa at all mosques on Friday, October 9.

WAM

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has called for a rain prayer, known as Salaat Al Istisqaa, at all mosques across the country. It will be held on Friday, October 9, Khaleej Times reported.

Is there a rain prayer in the UAE today?

No, the rain prayer is scheduled for Friday, October 9, not today. It will take place at all mosques across the UAE. Worshippers will perform Salaat Al Istisqaa half an hour before the Friday prayer, following the President's call.

Sheikh Mohamed urged everyone to pray to God for rain and mercy. He said this follows the Sunnah, or traditions, of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

Did Friday prayer times change in the UAE?

Yes. The UAE moved Friday prayer to 12.45pm in all mosques from January 2, 2026. The earlier time of 1.15pm had been used in all emirates except Sharjah since 2022.

Why is the UAE expecting more rain this season?

The National Centre of Meteorology has forecast above-average rainfall from October through January. The country is entering its cooler and wetter season.

The center called this year's El Niño "very strong." El Niño is a climate pattern marked by unusually warm surface waters in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. The center said it is an indicator of beneficial rainfall.

The UAE could still see heavy rain at times if suitable weather conditions develop.
