Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, the UAE’s leading clean energy company, has reached a significant milestone in the development of a 1GW wind farm in Kazakhstan, according to WAM.
The Investment agreement for the project was signed during COP29 held currently in Baku, marking a key step toward advancing Kazakhstan’s renewable energy ambitions.

The signing was conducted by Almassadam Satkaliyev, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy, and Abdulla Zayed, Director of Business and Project Development at Masdar, affirming both countries' shared commitment to accelerating the energy transition.
The agreement was witnessed by several high-ranking officials, including Nurlan Baibazarov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna, in addition to Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar.
The Jambyl wind farm
Located in Kazakhstan’s Jambyl region, the wind farm will be Masdar's first project in the country and is set to include a 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
The project is being co-developed by W Solar, Qazaq Green Power, and the Kazakhstan Investment Development Fund, with Masdar acting as the lead developer.
Once operational, the 1GW wind farm will be one of the largest in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region. The wind farm is expected to supply clean energy to 300,000 homes in southern Kazakhstan, while avoiding 2 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
The wind farm project in the Jambyl region is part of the UAE’s broader efforts to support Kazakhstan’s climate goals. This announcement builds upon the two countries’ commitment at COP28 to further develop Kazakhstan’s renewable energy sector.
The project will also help Kazakhstan meet its renewable energy targets, which include 15 percent renewable energy in the national energy mix by 2030 and 50 percent by 2050, as well as achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
