Abu Dhabi wants you to register your pets. Here’s why

Pet parents, listen up: Abu Dhabi is officially launching a centralized pet registration system.

Starting Feb. 3, pet owners in Abu Dhabi must register their cats and dogs through the TAMM portal.

The system, introduced by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), aims to create a comprehensive database of microchipped pets.

But it’s not just about keeping records — it’s part of a broader push for animal welfare and responsible ownership.

The system is designed to simplify registration. Veterinary clinics will play a key role, allowing owners to register their pets during routine visits.

Clinics will also handle ownership transfers, ensuring records remain accurate and compliant.

Establishments with animals must also register them, with a stricter six-month timeline to complete the process.

To encourage participation, the DMT has waived registration fees for now. Individual owners have a one-year grace period to comply, making it easier for pet parents to adjust to the new rules.

Beyond logistics, the initiative emphasizes good pet care practices: annual vaccinations, microchipping, and regular check-ups.
