Bahrain emerged as the top-performing Arab nation with a total of four medals — two gold, one silver, and one bronze. Winfred Yavi dominated the Women’s 3,000m steeplechase to secure a gold medal, while Akhmed Tazhudinov shined in the 97kg wrestling category, bringing home another gold for Bahrain.
Additional medals were earned by Salwa Eid, who achieved silver in the women’s 400m, and Gor Minasyan, who bagged bronze in the over 201 kg weightlifting category. By the end of the Games, Bahrain ranked 33rd globally, a remarkable leap from 77th place in Tokyo 2020.
Algeria stood strong with three medals — two gold and one bronze. Imane Khelif earned Algeria’s first-ever Olympic gold in boxing, and Kaylia Nemour took gold in uneven bars, marking Algeria’s debut Olympic victory in gymnastics.
Egypt and Tunisia secured three medals each, with one gold, one silver, and one bronze. Ahmed Elgendy from Egypt triumphed in the modern pentathlon, a grueling event that tests endurance across five disciplines.
Morocco claimed a gold in athletics with Soufiane El Bakkali winning back-to-back gold medals in the 3,000 meters steeplechase. Additionally, the Moroccan Lions earned bronze in football, defeating Egypt in the bronze medal match.
Jordan brought home one silver, while Qatar secured one bronze, showcasing their competitive spirit on the Olympic stage.
The Paris 2024 Olympics saw Arab athletes fall just short of their record-setting performance in Tokyo 2020, where they achieved their highest medal tally of 18.
As we celebrate these remarkable achievements, the Arab athletes have once again proven their prowess on the global stage, inspiring future generations to chase their Olympic dreams.
