A medical evacuation plane crashed in Philadelphia on Friday, killing at least seven people, including six Mexican citizens and one person on the ground, officials said Saturday.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker confirmed the deaths, adding that a person in a car at the crash site was among those killed.

"Thus far, our count is that there are 19 injured victims," Parker said at a press conference.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she had instructed consular officials to assist the families of the Mexican citizens who died.

The aircraft belonged to Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, a Mexico-based company licensed to operate in the U.S. The company said the flight carried four crew members, a pediatric medical patient, and the patient’s mother.

According to Shai Gold, a corporate strategist for Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, the child, a girl, was returning home to Tijuana.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash.

Officials are investigating what led to the crash, which left a scene of devastation at the site. Emergency responders rushed to treat the injured.

Mexico's President Sheinbaum expressed condolences and said Mexico would assist in repatriating the victims’ remains.
