Dubai has launched a new microbiome research and development initiative aimed at creating a globally competitive, intellectual property-focused ecosystem for health and longevity innovation, the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), and Crescent Enterprises said.
The initiative, named the Global Microbiome Ecosystem, was unveiled at The Microbiome Revolution symposium in Dubai and seeks to position the city as a world-leading hub for microbiome-driven health innovation, WAM reported.
The platform will integrate research and development, talent cultivation, and high-value intellectual property creation to accelerate scientific breakthroughs and translate them into practical health solutions.
Khalifa Al Qama, Chief of Research, Development and Innovation at Dubai RDI, a DFF ecosystem, said Dubai’s innovation-friendly regulatory frameworks make it a natural base for the global microbiome sector.
“By focusing on microbiome-driven health and longevity, this collaboration can accelerate translational research, generate globally relevant IP, and reinforce Dubai’s role as a hub where frontier science delivers real-world health impact,” he said.
Badr Jafar, CEO of Crescent Enterprises, described the initiative as a “microbiome moonshot,” where science, technology, and collaboration converge to shape outcomes for decades. He added that Dubai and the UAE provide an ideal environment for turning breakthrough science into practical solutions by aligning research, policy, investment, and innovation.
The collaboration will leverage Crescent Enterprises’ experience as an investor in microbiome innovation to advance novel health solutions, including precision medicine approaches, responsible clinical adoption, and international scaling.
The Microbiome Revolution: Unlocking the Gut–Brain Axis for the Future of Health symposium gathered over 150 researchers, clinicians, entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers to discuss advances in microbiome science, particularly the gut–brain axis, and their implications for prevention, mental wellbeing, and personalized care.
The event underscored the UAE’s role as a global platform for translating cutting-edge science into scalable, real-world impact.
