Dubai's 'Click and Travel' service clears airport immigration in seconds

Dubai has officially launched Click and Travel, a mobile immigration system that clears travelers in as little as 12 to 15 seconds. Instead of processing passengers at fixed counters, passport officers now carry the technology with them, using biometrics and facial recognition to verify identities on the move.

As reported by Gulf News, the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai unveiled the service at a press briefing at Dubai International Airport. The Director General and the Assistant Director General for Airport Affairs were both on hand for the announcement.

What is Click and Travel?

Click and Travel is a mobile passport-control service. GDRFA officers use handheld devices to complete entry and exit checks wherever passengers happen to be, instead of making them line up at a booth. Each check takes about 12 to 15 seconds, and the goal is simple: cut wait times at Dubai's airports, especially when things get busy.

How does the Click and Travel system work?

The technology stacks fingerprint scanning, facial recognition and electronic passport reading on top of automated pre-screening, all linked to traveler records through a secure network in real time. Since officers aren't tied to a fixed counter, they can walk through terminal halls and clear passengers right where crowds are forming. That flexibility matters most during rush periods or when something unexpected disrupts normal flow.

When was Click and Travel rolled out?

This wasn't a single big-bang launch. GDRFA first tested it at Terminal 3 back in October 2025, then widened the trial in May 2026 to cover every passenger category across all of Dubai's terminals. In the months between that expansion and the end of August, the system processed more than 31,000 travelers, giving officials a chance to iron out kinks before Monday's full rollout.

Who can use Click and Travel?

UAE citizens, residents, GCC nationals and visiting travelers can all use the service. It fits into Dubai's larger push toward biometric, tech-driven government services, and beyond faster processing, it gives immigration teams more room to adapt when passenger volumes suddenly spike.
