Work continues at the World Trade Centre Roundabout in Dubai, where the RTA will open the final of five bridges on Oct. 30

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will open the final World Trade Centre bridge on Friday, Oct. 30, Gulf News reported. The 1km bridge connects Al Majlis Street to 2nd December Street at the World Trade Centre Roundabout. It aims to cut travel times and ease congestion.
How much time will the new World Trade Centre bridge save drivers?
The RTA says the new bridge will cut travel time from Al Majlis Street to 2nd December Street from six minutes to one. Average delays at the intersection will drop from 12 minutes to 90 seconds. Drivers will also no longer need to navigate the former roundabout.
Traffic is also expected to flow better between Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Mustaqbal Street, Sheikh Rashid Street and nearby roads.
Which roads does the World Trade Centre bridge connect?
The two-lane bridge is 1,000 meters long and links Al Majlis Street to 2nd December Street. It can handle about 3,000 vehicles per hour. It is the fifth and final structure in the Dh696-million-plus World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project.
The roundabout links Sheikh Zayed Road with five streets:
- Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street
- Sheikh Rashid Street
- 2nd December Street
- Za’abeel Palace Street
- Al Majlis Street
The intersection is a key route for drivers heading to Dubai World Trade Centre, Downtown Dubai, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Deira and nearby areas.
What are the other bridges at the World Trade Centre Roundabout?
The project turned the former roundabout into a ground-level intersection and added five bridges to ease movement in different directions. Together, the five bridges span 5km.
- Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street: A 1km, two-lane bridge toward Deira. It carries 3,000 vehicles per hour.
- Sheikh Rashid Street to 2nd December Street: Two bridges with two lanes in each direction. They span a combined 2km and carry up to 6,000 vehicles per hour.
- Al Majlis Street to 2nd December Street: Two bridges spanning a combined 2km, including the one opening Friday. Capacity is about 6,000 vehicles per hour.
Who will benefit from the new bridge?
The upgrades will help drivers traveling between Jumeirah, Al Satwa, Dubai World Trade Centre, DIFC and Deira. Za’abeel, Al Satwa, Al Karama, Al Jafiliya and Al Makhoul are also expected to benefit.
The RTA says the project will serve more than 500,000 residents and visitors. They include commuters and people attending exhibitions and events at Dubai World Trade Centre.
Why are roadworks still continuing near the World Trade Centre?
Work will continue in the area after the bridge opens. The Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project runs from the Za’abeel Palace Street intersection to Financial Centre Street. It includes:
- Widening Al Mustaqbal Street from three to four lanes in each direction
- Building bridges and tunnels spanning a combined 1.5km
- Raising road capacity by 33 percent
- Cutting journey times from 13 minutes to six
The project is scheduled for completion in 2027. Once done, it will complement the new World Trade Centre bridges. It will improve links between Dubai’s business districts and residential areas and help the road network handle future traffic growth.
