Israeli airstrike on Gaza school kills over 30 Palestinians

An Israeli airstrike on a school and institute housing displaced individuals in Gaza killed more than 30 Palestinians on Wednesday, according to reports from the official Palestinian radio station, Voice of Palestine.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with rescuers struggling to pull survivors from the rubble and aid the wounded. This attack comes amid a sharp increase in Israeli military operations, which have resulted in mounting casualties and significant displacement of Gaza’s population.

Under the Fourth Geneva Convention and the broader framework, schools are considered civilian objects and are afforded protection from attacks during armed conflicts.

However, the United Nations has reported that more than 200 Israeli attacks have targeted schools in Gaza, leading to the complete destruction of at least 53 educational facilities.

These strikes have not only decimated critical infrastructure but have also severely disrupted the education of thousands of Palestinian children.

Many schools in Gaza have been converted into shelters for displaced families, further straining resources and compounding the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The destruction of these facilities worsens an already critical situation, leaving the local population with few safe havens amid escalating violence.

The ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip has brought the Palestinian death toll to 41,638, according to health authorities. In the same statement on Tuesday, it was confirmed that 96,460 people have been injured since October last year.
