Pakistan located the wreckage of a K2 Airways cargo plane on Wednesday in the Arabian Sea off Ormara, the country's airports authority said, as rescuers continued searching for five crew members who were on board when the aircraft went missing. The Boeing 737 had been approaching Karachi from Sharjah when it disappeared from radar Tuesday evening.

Pakistan's navy and maritime rescue agency located and identified the debris after a 12-hour search, the Pakistan Airports Authority said. Efforts to find the missing crew members were still underway, the authority added.
What happened to the K2 Airways plane before it crashed?
The plane reported a navigational system issue before radar showed it rapidly descending Tuesday evening, according to the Pakistan Airports Authority. Communication was lost about 155 nautical miles west of Karachi at 21:21 local time. Preliminary data from Flightradar24.com showed the aircraft lost altitude, briefly climbed, then suffered a second sudden and dramatic loss of altitude.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow and regret over the incident before the wreckage was found, saying the private cargo aircraft had crashed into the Arabian Sea and gone missing. A source told AFP that navy and merchant vessels were taking part in the search, supported by military aircraft. The airports authority published images of personnel lifting fuselage pieces onto a rescue vessel.
K2 Airways is a private cargo airline in Pakistan that operates scheduled and charter flights domestically and internationally. The aircraft was manufactured in 1999 and previously flew as a passenger plane for Aeroflot and Garuda Indonesia before being converted to a cargo configuration in 2012, according to Airfleets.net.
