Massive fire engulfs tissue paper factory in Peshawar, rescue efforts underway
Rescue 1122 teams have been battling the intense blaze for over three hours, with more than 20 fire trucks and over 60 personnel on site
A major fire erupted today at a tissue paper factory in Hayatabad’s industrial area in Peshawar, with efforts to control the blaze currently ongoing.
Rescue 1122 teams have been battling the intense blaze for over three hours, with more than 20 fire trucks and over 60 personnel on-site in an attempt to contain the flames.
More than 20 fire trucks are currently engaged in the operation, with spokesperson Bilal Faizi confirming that over 60 firefighters are on the ground, actively involved in fire control measures.
Additional fire teams from Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, and Khyber districts have joined the rescue efforts. Reports indicate that some firefighters have suffered from exhaustion amid challenging conditions.
In response to the emergency, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has spoken directly with Peshawar Commissioner Riaz Mehsud, emphasizing the use of advanced machinery to expedite control over the blaze.
Governor Kundi has instructed officials to prioritize measures to protect both the factory and surrounding residential areas.
Governor Kundi expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident, stating, "I am deeply saddened by the extent of the losses resulting from this devastating fire."
As rescue efforts ramped up, PTI leader Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra also arrived at the scene. “Visited the intense factory fire in Hayatabad ongoing since this afternoon. District officer Rescue 1122 is on-site, supervising containment operations. Thankfully, no lives have been lost, and no injuries reported,” Jhagra posted on X.
Jhagra also criticized the federal government, alleging it withheld emergency response resources that could aid the province in crises.
“The federal government holds Rescue personnel and equipment that could be crucial in KP emergencies. Politics aside, keeping these resources endangers KP residents. Return what belongs to the province immediately,” he added.
