At least six paramilitary personnel were killed, four injured and seven abducted after militants attacked a Frontier Constabulary post in northwestern Pakistan on the night of June 8-9, officials said. Eight attackers were killed in the ensuing clash.

What happened in the militant attack near Peshawar?

Heavily armed militants stormed a Frontier Constabulary checkpoint in the Hassan Khel area, killing six personnel and abducting seven others. Security forces repelled the assault, killing eight attackers.

The area lies at the junction of the Peshawar, Nowshera and Kohat districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

How did the attack unfold?

A senior security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Nukta that a large group of militants targeted the Federal Constabulary post in the Hassan Khel border area. "Six personnel received martyrdom and four others were injured in the attack," the official said. Security sources said militants also abducted seven personnel during the assault.

Sources said 10 officers were initially taken hostage, but three were released during the militants' retreat. The reasons for their release remain unclear. Security forces responded quickly and repelled the attempt to overrun the checkpoint.

What weapons and tactics did the militants use?

According to officials, the militants attacked using firearms, hand grenades and mortar shells, with the apparent aim of capturing the post. Security forces exchanged fire and successfully drove them back. "During the exchange of fire, eight militants were killed," security sources said.

What is the security situation in Hassan Khel now?

Additional security force contingents were dispatched to the area after reports of the attack emerged. The area was cordoned off, and operations against the militants remain ongoing. Police operations are also underway in surrounding areas, officials said.

Did TTP claim responsibility for the Peshawar attack?

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack and released photographs and video footage of the abducted personnel, according to officials.

The group's demands for their release were not immediately known. The Hassan Khel area has faced recurring militant violence and security operations in recent years.
