The Ajman Federal Court of First Instance has fined a 33-year-old Gulf national mother Dh1,000 for hitting her son on the head with a microphone, Gulf News reported. The assault left the boy unable to carry out daily activities for up to 20 days. The court showed leniency because he is her son.

Why was the mother in UAE fined Dh1,000?

The court convicted her of assault under Article 390(2) of the UAE Crimes and Penalties Law. It fined her Dh1,000 and ordered her to pay court fees. Judges took the family relationship into account and granted leniency because she is the boy’s mother.

What led to the assault on the boy?

Court records showed the incident followed a dispute between the boy and his sister. During the altercation, the mother struck her son on the head with a microphone.

The boy was also bitten by a dog owned by the mother. He sustained further injuries.

How did the case reach the Ajman court?

The boy’s father reported the alleged assault to the police. The complaint was registered and referred to the Public Prosecution. Prosecutors then brought the case before the court.

A medical report confirmed the boy’s injuries. They temporarily affected his ability to perform daily activities for up to 20 days.

Did the mother deny the charge?

The mother denied the charge during the investigation. She maintained her denial when she appeared before the court via video link.

Her lawyer submitted a memorandum seeking her acquittal. The Public Prosecution urged the court to convict her based on the evidence.

How did the court reach its verdict?

The court found that the boy’s statements during the investigation were backed by the medical report. The report supported the allegation of assault and linked the injuries to the incident.

The court ruled that the defense arguments did not undermine the evidence. It found her guilty of assault.

In deciding the sentence, the court took the family relationship into account. It then fined her Dh1,000 and ordered her to pay court fees.
