NC Chairman Haroon Malik briefs National Assembly on PFF Electoral Process
He provided an update to the committee about the district, provincial and federation-level election process
Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Normalization Committee chairman Haroon Malik on Friday briefed the National Assembly Standing Committee on the Inter-Povincial Coordination (IPC) on the electoral process of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF).
He provided an update to the committee about the district, provincial and federation-level election process.
“During the briefing the chairman NC apprised the Committee that the NC was mandated to complete the electoral process for the PFF spanning from 2021 to its culmination by December 15, 2024. He outlined the progress of district-level elections and the subsequent steps for provincial and federation-level elections,” the committee press release said.
“However, the committee expressed dissatisfaction with the provided briefing, because the said briefing was not provided to the committee members in advance. Consequently, the chairman of the Normalization Committee was directed to submit a comprehensive report on the electoral progress of the PFF in both hard and soft copies within seven days.
“The committee stressed the importance of transparency, adherence to deadlines, and ensuring a fair and inclusive electoral process to safeguard the future of football in Pakistan.”
The meeting, chaired by chairman Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel, was adjourned with the expectation that the NC will meet its obligations and facilitating free and fair elections.
The meeting was attended by Anjum Aqeel Khan, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasir, Dr Mahreen Razzaq Bhutto, Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Khawaja Izhar Ul Hassan, Sayed Sami Ullah and Shaista Khan MNA’s along with the Secretary of IPC, Chairman Normalization Committee, Secretary General Kabaddi Federation and other officials from the ministry and attached departments.
Haroon had skipped the previous meeting held on November 19 which had a clash with the PFF extraordinary congress meeting. The said congress meeting, which was also attended by FIFA and the AFC delegation at Lahore, had been postponed after a few representatives of departments, who had not been invited to the meeting, had forced their way into the meeting hall. They had told the meeting that they were congress members and the meeting would not be held without them.
The delegation of FIFA and AFC then held a meeting with NC and it was decided that the meeting should be postponed and would be rescheduled in future.
The extraordinary congress meeting had been convened to amend the Article 38 of the PFF constitution relating to the eligibility for the presidential slot of the PFF.
So far, no development has been made in that direction.
However, NC had sent its two members to the November 19 Standing Committee meeting on that day. However, the committee did not listen to them and summoned Haroon for its November 26 meeting which was latter rescheduled for November 29.
