Pakistan’s army chief vows to end terrorism, lauds forces’ sacrifices
Gen. Munir also meets Khyber Pakhtunkhwa politicians from various parties during the Peshawar visit
Pakistan’s army chief, Gen. Syed Asim Munir, has vowed to bring the country’s fight against terrorism to a decisive end, commending the sacrifices and dedication of the nation’s security forces.
“This war is ongoing, and we will take it to its logical conclusion, InshAllah (God willing),” Munir said Monday during a visit to Peshawar, where he was briefed on the security situation and counter-terrorism operations targeting Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants, referred to as "Fitna Al Khwarij."
The briefing was attended by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, according to the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Munir praised the efforts of Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies, stating, “Our forces have relentlessly pursued and eliminated key terrorist leaders, dismantled their infrastructure, and neutralized their cells, sending a clear message that terror has no place in our land.”

He highlighted the exceptional morale and professionalism of the troops, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to protect the nation. “The enemy may try to sow discord and fear, but we will not relent. Hostile elements will be dealt with an iron hand, and their capacity to inflict harm will be decimated,” he said.
The visit comes amid a surge in terrorist activity across Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the interior ministry, 948 of the 1,566 terrorist incidents reported over the past 10 months occurred in the province, resulting in 583 deaths — two-thirds of the national toll.
The TTP, which ended a fragile ceasefire with the government in late 2022, has intensified attacks on security forces and civilians in tribal regions bordering Afghanistan. In response, the government officially designated the group as "Fitna al-Khawarij" in July, urging the use of the term "Khawarij" (outcasts) to describe the group.
Interaction with politicians
During his visit, Gen. Munir also met with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa politicians from various parties. The participants voiced consensus on the need for a unified political front and public support to combat terrorism. They reiterated their unflinching support for the armed forces and law enforcement agencies in the fight against extremism.
The army chief reaffirmed the resolve of Pakistan’s security apparatus to ensure peace and stability, declaring, “We stand united against the forces of evil, and we will protect our motherland at all costs.”
Upon arrival in Peshawar, Gen. Munir was received by the Corps Commander Peshawar.
