Over 3,000 North Korean soldiers killed, wounded in Kursk: Zelensky
The Kursk border region remains a focal point in the Russia-Ukraine war, with North Korean forces playing a key role
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated Monday that more than 3,000 North Korean soldiers have been killed or injured while supporting Russian forces in the Kursk region.
Zelensky shared on X that "the number of North Korean soldiers killed and wounded in the Kursk region has already exceeded 3,000," based on preliminary reports.
The announcement follows earlier South Korean intelligence indicating that approximately 1,100 North Korean soldiers have been killed or wounded since joining combat operations in December.
North Korea has reportedly deployed thousands of troops to bolster Russia's military, particularly in Kursk, where Ukraine launched a surprise incursion in August.
Zelensky also warned of potential reinforcements from Pyongyang, citing a briefing from army commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrsky.
He emphasized that growing ties between Moscow and Pyongyang could heighten the risk of destabilization near the Korean Peninsula and surrounding regions.
"This cooperation not only threatens Ukraine but poses significant risks to regional stability," Zelensky said.
