Pakistan is scheduled to host the 2028 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup from September 7 to October 1, while the men’s qualifying tournaments for the Los Angeles Olympics will take place earlier that year, according to an international events calendar circulated by the ICC to its member boards.
According to a report by Cricinfo, the schedule was shared following the governing body’s meetings in Dubai in October and outlines key dates for international cricket in 2028 and beyond.
When will Pakistan host the Women’s T20 World Cup?
The 12-team Women’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to run for 25 days in Pakistan, from September 7 to October 1, 2028. The tournament will be followed shortly afterwards by the men’s T20 World Cup, creating a packed period for international cricket.
Australia and New Zealand will jointly host the 20-team men’s competition from October 12 to November 12, leaving an 11-day gap between the conclusion of the women’s event and the start of the men’s tournament.
Pakistan’s hosting assignment places the country at the centre of the women’s international calendar in 2028, although further details about venues and the tournament schedule have yet to be outlined in the information circulated by the ICC.
When will the LA Olympics cricket qualifiers take place?
The men’s qualifying events for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics have been moved to January and February 2028, having initially been planned for 2027.
The revised window will place the qualifiers less than six months before the Games.
Both the men’s and women’s Olympic qualifying tournaments will feature eight teams, with the ICC yet to finalise their venues.
The qualifiers will comprise the seven highest-ranked eligible teams outside the automatic qualifiers, alongside the winner of the Caribbean Regional Qualifier.
How will teams qualify for the men’s Olympic tournament?
The four highest-ranked eligible teams from Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania, based on the ICC Men’s T20I rankings on December 31, 2026, will secure qualification places.
The United States, as Olympic hosts, can also qualify directly, provided they meet the ICC’s ranking requirement of being inside the top 15 at any point during the June 30-December 31, 2026 qualification period. The American men’s team is currently ranked 13th, putting it in position to meet that condition.
What other major events are scheduled?
The ICC has also scheduled the 2029 World Test Championship final in England from June 8 to 12.
Meanwhile, the 2030 Men’s T20 World Cup has been moved from June to July-August. England, Ireland and Scotland are set to host that 20-team competition.
