Pakistan and Afghanistan have pledged to enhance bilateral cooperation in high-level meetings aimed at resolving tensions and promoting regional peace.
Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Muhammad Sadiq Khan, held separate discussions with Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and Acting Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani. The meetings, held during Ambassador Sadiq’s visit to Kabul, signaled a renewed commitment to addressing shared challenges.
Ambassador Sadiq conveyed condolences on behalf of Pakistani leaders for the recent passing of Khalilur Rehman Haqqani, a key figure in Afghanistan. Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires in Kabul, Ambassador Ubaid Nizami, joined the discussions.
“We discussed a range of issues of mutual interest and agreed to strengthen fraternal relations between the two countries,” Ambassador Sadiq said in a statement on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
The Pakistani delegation was warmly received by senior Afghan officials upon their arrival Monday evening.
On Tuesday, extensive talks with Acting Foreign Minister Muttaqi covered topics ranging from border security to counterterrorism and economic collaboration.

Tensions between the two neighbors have escalated in recent months over concerns such as cross-border terrorism, disputes at key border crossings, and security incidents. Both sides acknowledged the urgency of addressing these challenges to restore trust and ensure stability.
Pakistani leaders, including the Prime Minister and Defense Minister, have accused the Afghan Taliban of offering safe havens to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists, enabling cross-border attacks.
The Taliban have denied these claims, maintaining that they do not support the TTP and describing Pakistan’s recent violence as an "internal matter."

Renewed efforts for peace

The visit marks the first by a Pakistani delegation since relations between Islamabad and the Taliban strained in recent months, reflecting the complicated dynamics between the two neighbors.
