Pakistan calls for coordinated OIC action on Gaza, West Bank

Pakistan called on Tuesday for renewed and coordinated OIC action to protect Palestinian rights, address the deteriorating situation in Gaza and the West Bank, and advance a lasting political settlement. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar made the appeal at a meeting of the OIC Committee of Six on Palestine, held on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly session in New York.

Why did Pakistan call for coordinated OIC action?

Dar said the Gaza ceasefire was being violated almost daily and described the security situation as extremely fragile. He reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people and urged OIC member states to translate that solidarity into sustained, coordinated diplomatic pressure rather than isolated statements.

Dar appreciated mediation efforts by the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey to advance the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, endorsed under UN Security Council Resolution 2803. He called for the plan's full and faithful implementation alongside the resolution.

What did Dar say about West Bank settlements?

The foreign minister strongly condemned continued Israeli violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Haram Al-Sharif, including repeated incursions by Israeli settlers. He voiced concern over settlement expansion, settler violence, annexationist measures and forced displacement across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

Dar said these actions threaten the territorial integrity and contiguity of the occupied Palestinian territory. He called on OIC states to safeguard the historical and legal status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque and other Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and to reject settlement expansion and forced displacement outright.

What is Pakistan's position on Gaza's reconstruction?

Pakistan said Gaza's reconstruction and future governance arrangements must remain Palestinian-led, with a central role for the Palestinian Authority. Dar stressed the need for accountability over violations of international law and international humanitarian law in Gaza and the West Bank.

He called for stronger coordination among OIC member states at the United Nations and other international forums to keep pressure on implementation. Dar reiterated Pakistan's support for an independent, sovereign and contiguous State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, and reaffirmed backing for Palestine's full UN membership.

"As members of the OIC Committee of Six, we have a particular responsibility to translate our collective solidarity into sustained and coordinated diplomatic action," Dar said. He added that Pakistan would keep working with partner and brotherly countries to advance the Palestinian cause toward a just and lasting solution based on international legitimacy.
