The Pakistan government is expected to revise fuel prices for the next fortnight, with petrol prices likely to increase and diesel prices likely to drop sharply, sources familiar with the decision making informed Nukta.

Petrol prices may rise by PKR 1.33 per liter, while high-speed diesel could drop by PKR 11.75 per liter. Kerosene oil is expected to be reduced by PKR 6.25 per liter while light diesel oil may see a cut of PKR 7.11 per liter.

Preliminary calculations for the price adjustments have been completed and are under review by the Ministry of Petroleum and the Ministry of Finance. The final proposal will be sent to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for approval following consultations between the ministries.

The proposed changes are based on adjustments in the exchange rate and modifications to the petroleum levy, the sources said.

The prime minister is expected to make the final decision ahead of the scheduled implementation date of Aug 16.

Fuel price changes are reviewed fortnightly in Pakistan and are closely watched for their impact on inflation, transportation costs, and the overall economy.
