The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) will formally launch the Pakistan Hockey League (PHL) in Islamabad on October 14, with the inaugural season planned for 2027 as part of efforts to modernise and commercially strengthen hockey in Pakistan.

What is the Pakistan Hockey League?

The Pakistan Hockey League is a new professional competition being developed by the PHF to create regular, commercially sustainable hockey competition in the country. The inaugural season is expected to feature six to eight franchise teams, with international players contracted to play alongside Pakistani talent.

The league aims to provide players with exposure to international expertise while creating new opportunities for investment, broadcasting, sponsorship, digital content and grassroots development.

When will the Pakistan Hockey League start?

The PHL will be formally launched on October 14 in Islamabad, while its inaugural season is scheduled for 2027. The PHF awarded the league rights to Mediacast following a competitive bidding process earlier this year.

The competition is being developed along the lines of the FIH Hockey Pro League and Indian Hockey League tournaments. Its structure is intended to bring more regular competition and professional management into Pakistan's hockey ecosystem.
