Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund have decided to hold upcoming economic review talks virtually due to the current security situation, officials said.

An IMF delegation departed after initial meetings, and all remaining sessions scheduled from today onward will now take place online, according to sources at the Finance Ministry.

The virtual negotiations will proceed as planned under the existing schedule and will include officials from the Finance Ministry, the Federal Board of Revenue and the energy sector.

The IMF is set to review Pakistan’s fiscal performance for the first half of the current financial year. The agenda also includes discussions on the budget outlook for the ongoing fiscal year and an assessment of the economic impact of recent floods.

Pakistan will share its government expenditure prioritization plan with the IMF. Officials will also explain the reasons behind missing the tax collection target as part of a broader revenue review.

The government will brief the IMF on the performance of the sales tax and income tax sectors, as well as provide updates on the country’s external debt and financing position. Future debt repayments and funding arrangements will also be discussed, officials said.
