Pakistan and Kazakhstan commit to strengthen trade and connectivity

Pakistan and Kazakhstan agreed on Tuesday to accelerate bilateral trade, investment, and connectivity projects, while finalizing key agreements ahead of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s upcoming visit to Islamabad.

The two sides also emphasized enhancing people-to-people exchanges and cooperation across multiple strategic sectors.

The agreements and discussions were formalized during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu, who is leading a ministerial delegation on an official visit to Pakistan.

Prime Minister Sharif welcomed the delegation, conveying warm regards to President Tokayev and highlighting the longstanding fraternal ties between the two countries.

The premier underscored Pakistan’s commitment to expanding trade, investment and regional connectivity through air, rail, and road links.

He emphasized the importance of President Tokayev’s forthcoming visit and offered to send a delegation to Astana to finalize various MoUs and agreements under discussion, building on months of regular dialogue between the two countries.

Deputy Prime Minister Nurtleu thanked PM Sharif for the hospitality extended to him and briefed him on earlier discussions with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar.

He described the upcoming presidential visit as historic, expressing confidence that it would mark a new chapter in Pakistan-Kazakhstan relations.

The meeting was also attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and the foreign secretary, reflecting the high-level engagement and shared commitment to deepening bilateral ties.
