Pakistan on Thursday rejected what it described as India’s “baseless allegations and propaganda” linking Islamabad to the Pahalgam incident, urging New Delhi to act responsibly amid ongoing regional tensions.
In a statement, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan said it was “deplorable” that India had again resorted to what it called a misinformation campaign at a time when Pakistan, along with international partners, is engaged in diplomatic efforts to promote regional and global peace.
The statement said India’s narrative appeared aimed at securing “narrow domestic political gains,” particularly during a sensitive period marked by an ongoing regional crisis. It added that such allegations reflect a pattern of behavior following what it called India’s “misplaced adventurism,” referencing Pakistan’s response through Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos last year.
Pakistan also accused India of attempting to divert international attention from the situation in Indian-administered Kashmir, reiterating that denying the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination violates United Nations resolutions.
The Foreign Office criticized India’s recent actions, including its decision to place the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, calling it a unilateral and illegal move that undermines international law and regional stability. It warned that India’s “inflammatory rhetoric, repeated provocations, and aggressive military posturing” continue to pose risks to peace in South Asia.
Pakistan urged the international community to take notice and press India to refrain from actions and statements that could derail efforts to maintain regional and international security.
The statement concluded with a call for constructive engagement and responsible conduct to ensure lasting peace in the region.
