Pakistan’s information minister said Sunday that 583 Afghan Taliban militants have been killed during Pakistan’s ongoing military campaign, known as Operation Ghazb lil Haq.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar released an update at 1600 hours on March 8 outlining what he described as major losses inflicted on the Afghan Taliban during the operation.

According to Tarar, more than 795 militants were also injured during the campaign.

The minister said Pakistani forces destroyed 242 Taliban check posts during the operation. He added that 38 additional posts were captured and later destroyed.

Tarar said 213 tanks, armored vehicles and artillery guns belonging to the Taliban were also destroyed.

He further claimed that air operations targeted 64 locations across Afghanistan during the course of the campaign.

Tarar described Operation Ghazb lil Haq as a major success and said the strikes were carried out against militant infrastructure at multiple locations.

Pakistan and Afghanistan share a long and porous border, and tensions between the two countries have periodically risen over security concerns and militant activity in border regions.
