The HBL Pakistan Super League's future hangs in the balance as security concerns intensify following a string of Indian drone attacks in Pakistan, casting a shadow over the tournament's prospects.
The PSL’s administration and franchises are set to meet at 4pm in Rawalpindi today to decide the fate of the remaining matches of the marquee event which is nearing the playoffs stage.
“Yes, an emergency meeting has been called to decide the fate of the remaining matches,” a well-placed source told Nukta.
“Various options will be weighed. The event either will be postponed or matches will be shifted to other centers like Karachi. Dubai also may be an option. But it is not yet clear as various matters will be weighed in before taking final decision.”
Sources in Pindi told Nukta that one drone has fallen near Pindi Stadium.
“One drone has fallen near Pindi Stadium and I think the event may be postponed,” the source said.
Pindi will host four more matches, also including the qualifier while Lahore is supposed to host the two eliminators and final which is scheduled for May 18.
Multan is supposed to host the game between Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators on May 11.
Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed on Thursday that armed forces neutralized 12 Indian drones across multiple locations in the country.
In a press briefing the military's spokesperson said that on May 7 and 8, Indian drones attempted intrusions in various parts of the country.
“India last night took yet another blatant military act of aggression against Pakistan by sending Herap drones at multiple locations,” he said.
The drones were successfully neutralized in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Bahawalpur, Mianwali, Karachi, Chor, Miano and Attock, according to the DG ISPR.
The PSL X is at a crucial stage. Quetta Gladiators last night demolished Islamabad United by 109 runs to enter into the playoffs. Meanwhile, Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars are in line to compete for the remaining three playoff spots.
