The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has recorded its highest-ever investor base of 681,965 in October 2026, as growing retail participation pushed new investor additions in the first 10 months of the year beyond the combined total of the previous four years.

The exchange added a record 25,747 net new investors in October, up 66% year-on-year, taking the total investor base 56% higher than a year earlier, according to data released by the PSX.

Ten months beat four years

During January-October 2026, the exchange recorded 218,894 net new investors, exceeding the combined additions of 193,246 recorded during the four calendar years from 2022 to 2025.

The latest figures highlight a significant increase in retail participation in Pakistan’s equity market, with younger investors accounting for a substantial share of new entrants. Gen Z and millennials represented 85% of new investors, indicating growing interest among younger segments of the population.

How the base has grown

The PSX investor base has expanded from 279,522 in June 2022 to 329,292 in June 2024 and 583,052 in June 2026, before reaching 681,965 in October 2026.

The rising number of investors comes amid efforts to broaden participation in the country’s capital markets and attract more individual investors. The record additions could help deepen the domestic capital market by expanding its retail investor pool and strengthening participation in equity trading.
