Saudi Arabia officially submits bid to host FIFA World Cup 2034
Central to Saudi Arabia's bid is the construction of a state-of-the-art 92,000-capacity stadium in Riyadh
Saudi Arabia has officially thrown its hat into the ring to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. During a ceremony in Paris on July 29, a Saudi delegation, including Sports Minister Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, President of the Saudi Football Federation (SAFF) Yasser Al-Misehal, and two young talents, proudly presented the bid.
With the bid books set to be published on FIFA.com by July 31, the world will soon see what Saudi Arabia has in store.
A historic moment
Saudi Arabia’s bid for the 2034 World Cup represents a significant milestone in the Kingdom’s journey. Launched in March, the campaign faces little competition, as no other countries expressed interest before FIFA's deadline. The bid now enters its third stage, with FIFA set to conduct official visits and evaluations.
The host nation for the 2034 World Cup will be announced on December 11. If successful, Saudi Arabia could become the second Gulf country to host the world’s most-watched sporting event.
Saudi Arabia's sporting vision
Endorsed by King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the bid aligns with Vision 2030's goals of advancing sports and youth empowerment. Notably, football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has shown support for Saudi Arabia’s bid.
State-of-the-art facilities
Central to Saudi Arabia's bid is the construction of a state-of-the-art 92,000-capacity stadium in Riyadh. Announced just days before the bid submission, this stadium is designed to host major international events, including the World Cup. Scheduled for completion in late 2029, the stadium will be named after King Salman and serve as the main base for the Saudi national team.
The sports complex will include an indoor sports hall, an Olympic-sized pool, and other world-class facilities. This design was selected from submissions by six international companies, ensuring it meets FIFA's stringent requirements for sustainability and architectural excellence.
