U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz is under fresh scrutiny following a Washington Post report revealing his use of Gmail for official government work, including scheduling and work-related documents.

The revelations come just weeks after Waltz was embroiled in the Yemen chat group scandal, where highly sensitive airstrike discussions were accidentally leaked to a journalist.

According to the Washington Post, Waltz’s senior aide also used Gmail to discuss military positions and weapons systems, raising further concerns about handling classified information within President Donald Trump’s administration.

The White House confirmed that Waltz received emails and calendar invites on his personal email but insisted that he had cc'd government accounts to comply with record retention laws."

National Security Council (NSC) spokesman Brian Hughes defended Waltz, stating "He has never sent classified material over his personal email account or any unsecured platform.”

Hughes dismissed the report as “the latest attempt to distract the American people” from what he called Trump’s successful national security policies.

Yemen chat ccandal still lingers

The Gmail revelations follow the Yemen chat group scandal, in which Waltz mistakenly added The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief to a Signal group chat discussing U.S. airstrikes against Yemen’s Huthi rebels.

The breach revealed discussions between Waltz, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and other officials regarding airstrike timings and intelligence.

Waltz later admitted his mistake, telling Fox News, “I built the group; my job is to make sure everything's coordinated.”

Despite the backlash, Trump has refused to dismiss Waltz or Hegseth, dismissing the controversy as a “witch hunt.”

While Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that “the case is closed” and that Trump remains confident in Waltz, the Gmail revelations could renew calls for his resignation.

With mounting scrutiny over security practices in the administration, questions remain over whether Waltz can weather the controversy—or if his role in Trump’s national security team is becoming untenable.
